The Villa San Juan Capistrano - Romantic Bridal Makeup & Hair

I am so in love with everything about this wedding!! Not only is the couple, Liz and Ryan, so adorable together, but their wedding took place in the most romantic venue with the most amazing florals and decor (see vendors below). I first met Liz and Ryan when they were engaged for a styled wedding shoot (the images and video are featured on the home page). The shoot was a totally different style than their actual wedding, so it was fun getting to create both looks on Liz.

To achieve her dewy complexion, I airbrushed her foundation, blush, and bronzer. The formula I used was the Temptu S/B formula, which is long lasting and gives a very hydrated look.

For her hair, we went with a style that was inspired by a picture she sent me. It was mostly down, but with some structure to help it last longer and be out of her face. She loves braids, so I made sure to incorporate that into the style.

Makeup for Engagement Photos using Kett Hydro Airbrush

Hey everyone! I thought I would start going into more detail here on my blog about some of the makeovers I post on instagram.

The beautiful woman pictured below was my client for an engagement shoot. I used the Temptu Air as a compressor/gun to spray on the Kett Hydro (water based) foundation. I am in love with the Temptu Air! If you haven't heard of it, and you are someone who regularly has to travel with airbrush I highly recommend it!! (Will be posting a review on Youtube/ this blog about Temptu Air). Anyway, I love how it turned out. Product details below.

  • Kett Hydro foundation
  • Tarte creaseless concealer
  • RCMA no color powder
  • Ben Nye Banana powder
  • Tarte blush "Culture"
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow wiz Medium brown
  • NYX brow gel
  • Makeup geek "Cocoa Bear" "Corrupt"
  • ABH Modern Renaissance palette "Ochre", "Primavera"
  • Kryolan Glamour Sparks
  • Maybelline black gel liner
  • 747M lashes
  • Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector "Champagne Pop"
  • The Balm Meet Matt(e) Liquid Lip "Committed"

That's it for makeup! For hair I used a 1.5 in barrel to create some volume then set it with Sebastian Shaper Spray!

Country Bride | Giracci Vineyards and Farms | Orange County Makeup Artist

I am so lucky to have the most amazing brides as clients! Lisa was a sweetheart the first day I met her at her trial. She was also taking her engagement photos that day. Using your engagement photos as a bridal trial is a great way to test how the makeup photographs. After the trial, we discussed subtle changes to enhance her look to stand out more on camera, while still looking natural.

On the wedding day, I airbrushed her foundation, bronzer, and contour with Kett Hydro airbrush makeup. Lisa told me that it held up even after her crying most of the ceremony! For her hair, we added extensions and created a half up style with curls. I am in love with how everything turned out! She was such a beautiful bride, and I'm so grateful for my part in her wedding.

San Diego Wedding Makeup Artist

I am so excited to share these photos from Phoenicia's wedding in San Diego!

I first met Phoenicia when I did her makeup for her boudoir photos. This gave me a chance to learn what works best on her skin and for her face shape. She wanted BOLD makeup that would pop in photos. I loved her vision, and I'm so pleased with how it turned out!

For the wedding day, I used Kett Cosmetics Fixx Creme foundation and corrector to conceal, highlight, and contour her face. This formula is waterproof and long lasting.  I also used this makeup on her mother, who wanted natural skin but defined eyes.

Laguna Beach & Huntington Beach Wedding - Lillia and Will

I'm so excited to share Lillia and Will's beautiful wedding pictures by Lokitm Photography.  Their wedding was divided into two separate days with the ceremony held in the gorgeous Laguna Beach, and the reception in Huntington Beach! Lucky me, I got to get her ready twice!!

I used Kett hydro airbrush on Lillia for even, long lasting coverage. I brought out her eyes with matte, warm brown eyeshadows and lashes for a little drama while keeping it soft.

Also, can I just say I LOVE her tea length dress. It pairs perfectly with the shoes and the charming backdrop!

Thank you Lillia for choosing me as your wedding makeup and hair artist. I am so honored and happy to have met you!

Bridal Spotlight

I am in love with this makeup and hair look I created with my beautiful bride, Rosemary! I say with, because it is a collaborative process with my brides to make them look exactly the way they want! She was such a sweetie; I really enjoyed getting to know her the months leading up to her wedding.

labridalmakeupartist

When Rosemary and I met for her bridal trial, she knew exactly the type of look she was going for: voluminous curls, and brown smokey eye with nude lips. To get a flawless finish to her skin, I used waterproof creme makeup with a thin layer of airbrush foundation on top.

An essential part of every trial is to take photos of the completed look! This is so important because it allows both the bride and me to see how the makeup photographs, and it gives me  the opportunity to really study the photos to make any improvements for the wedding day. We made a few adjustments for her wedding day, including adding some flowers to one side of her hair.

I can't get over how glamorous and GORGEOUS Rosie looked with her completed look in her wedding dress. I got this message from her the next day:

I love how my makeup looked so natural and so beautiful thank you so much!!

Congrats again to Rosemary and Sal!!

Outdoor Wedding in Nestldown Los Gatos - Bay Area Makeup & Hair

Esther & Tyler

I am SO honored to have been a part of this special and absolutely beautiful celebration of Esther and Tyler. Esther is my sister in law, and she and Tyler have been a part of our family for years. Not only was I asked to be a bridesmaid, but I was in charge of hair and makeup for the majority of our bridal party! I had an amazing day from the morning getting them ready, to the partying afterwards!

Photos by Majesta Patterson

The wedding took place in the most romantic setting in the woods of Los Gatos, CA. The ceremony was truly magical! Music played throughout the trees as we watched Esther descend the steps to meet Tyler, her dress glittering in the light with every step. Between Esther and Tyler, and the guests who all clearly love them so much, the tears were almost non stop! WATERPROOF makeup is a must in these situations!

Wedding Makeup & Hair

For Esther's bridal makeup, I used my trusty Kett Fixx Creme foundations, correctors, and blushes to create a long lasting, waterproof finish. Esther loves neutrals and earth tones, and prefers a very natural hair and makeup look. I used my Viseart matte neutral eyeshadow palette to add subtle depth to her eyes. I then applied a thin layer of waterproof black gel eyeliner to the upper lash line and smoked it out for a softer look. For her lashes, we opted for some individual lashes, focusing mostly on the outer corners to give a subtle, cat-eye like lift. For her hairstyle, we created long lasting loose waves by setting them ahead of time.

Once the look was complete and she put on her dress, I had to stand back in awe! She was such a stunning bride!!

Vueset Palette Review

Vueset Tahiti Palette - Makeup Artist Tools!

I don't know about you, but I LOVE looking at other artist's kits and especially how they organize said kits ;)

I just recently purchased the Vueset Tahiti Palette from Camera Ready Cosmetics. Vueset offers several different options of empty acrylic palettes that are designed for makeup artists and hair stylists. These little containers are stack-able and perfect for condensing your makeup kit! As a professional whose makeup kit sees a lot of travel and wear, I am always looking for the best way to simplify and lighten my load.

I'd seen Vueset containers for some time now, and since my Makeup Forever Palette that was storing my Kett foundations has finally given way, I decided to make the switch to Vueset.

I just bought the Tahiti palette as a test for now, but I am loving it so much I am going to go back and buy some more! Looking at the palette it doesn't seem like it would hold that much - but surprisingly each well holds a full 7 grams of product! That's more than enough room for your average lipstick, and perfect for my Kett Fixx creme refill pans.

You can see that the Tahiti palette has spaces for 24 different colors. The palette is very sturdy and snaps tightly closed. I know some artists have successfully use these palettes to store their loose pigments and even cream shadows/liners, so you know its got to be air-tight!

My Rating: 5/5!

Makeover and photo shoot in Orange County with model Jhoanne

Last fall I moved back to Orange County from Texas after being away for six years. The weather is so refreshing and the beautiful scenery is endless, which makes me want to be outside all the time! I met recently with model Jhoanne (also from Orange County) to do an outdoor photo shoot right in my corner of Laguna Hills. The natural setting makes for a great backdrop to the photos.

Makeup - Earth Tones

Jhoanne is obviously gorgeous and I can't get enough of her smile!! For her eye makeup, I used some Yaby pearl paints and eyeshadows in green, gold, and warm brown colors to go along with the surrounding earth tones. I applied some extra long lashes to really lift and open the eyes. For her blush and lips I chose fairly natural colors - Rimmel nude lipliner with a little Mac creme cup lipstick in the center, and Mac Melba blush on the cheeks. To create a soft glow on the cheeks, I added Becca's highlighter in Champagne Pop

Newport Beach Photo Shoot with Model Ali - Summer Makeup and Hair

Ali is a local OC model that I recently worked with to take some really fun beach photos. This was my first time taking photos myself on the beach, so it was definitely a learning experience! There was a lot of climbing rocks and rolling around in the sand, which Ali graciously went along with, and by the end we were cold and covered in wet sand, but oh-so happy!

Makeup - bronze, copper, gold

These colors are universally flattering on all skin, hair, and eye colors, and I especially love them for summer! Easy to pair with a bright lip, or a soft pink/nude like we did for this shoot.

One of my favorite palettes for these copper and gold tones is the Sleek Sunset Palette. Super affordable and AMAZING quality! I'm telling you, these perform just as well as some of the pricier brands.

To get that gorgeous glow on her skin, I used Becca's Champagne Pop on the high points of the face. To blur pores and to even out the bronzer, blush, and highlight, I used Graftobian HD dual finish powders. I LOVE these powders for their build-able (yet not cakey) coverage and smooth application.

For her hair, I curled it first, then pulled it up into this pony using a pull through braid technique. Once we let down her hair, the curls held just enough to create that perfectly textured beach hair.

Keep an eye out for my next post like this coming soon!

BOLD Dark Blue Eyeshadow - Makeup and Photography by Veronica

In my spare time I have been working on improving my photography skills. Here are some photos from a recent session with this lovely model Seinne. Like me, she also an OC local!

I wanted to try a look that was new for her, so we went with this dramatic dark blue/purple smoked out eyeshadow with a little sparkle. I placed individual lashes for a "less fake" but FULL fringe. Her skin was pretty flawless to begin with; I just helped to bring out her skin to a smooth, almost buttery finish using my favorite Kett Fixx creme correctors and foundations. The glow on her cheeks was achieved using MAC soft n gentle. To get that super shiny lip, I mixed some Mehron metallic gold powder with OCC clear lip tar.

I hope you enjoy the photos! Will be posting more from recent shoots soon!

Before & After Makeup Transformations

Before and after makeup transformations by Veronica Fensel | Makeup Artist & Hair Stylist | Los Angeles | Orange County | San Diego County

Bridal Makeup

I love doing bridal makeup! Making the bride feel her most beautiful and confident on a day she will always remember is so important to me. I get to witness and be a part of those precious moments before the bride is about to walk down the aisle, surrounded by her family and closest friends.

The photos below are from one of my beautiful brides, Bree.  She had done a bridal trial before her wedding, so she was able to test out the makeup look. By the time her wedding day arrived, she had decided to change the eye shadow colors slightly to include more purple tones (which brought her eye color out even more!)

Waterproof Makeup - Rania's Bridal Makeup

I am loving these pictures from Rania's wedding! She is such a beautiful and sweet person, I am so glad to have been her makeup artist. Rania and I had spent quite a bit of time at her trial trying on several different eye looks and took pictures of each look so she could decide which one suited her best.

Rania's Wedding Makeup:

We settled on a look that highlighted her lid with a soft sparkling white color. I smoked out the crease and lower lash line with muted purple tones to further emphasize her eye shape. For extra drama, I lined her eyes with black waterproof gel liner and stacked two false lashes on top of her own.

For her foundation, I airbrushed waterproof makeup, Kett Hydro Proof.  I used different airbrush colors to highlight and contour her face. For blush, I used Kett's waterproof creme blush - I am in love with their creme blushes! I used MAC's soft & gentle to add some glow to her cheeks, and on the lips I filled in the lip entirely with Rimmel's thousand kisses lip liner (long lasting) and put some MAC lipstick in creme cup on the center to add a little highlight.

I stayed the majority of the wedding to be on hand for hair and makeup touchups (hair originally styled by Abby Kawaja). It was a beautiful wedding that took place in an elegant wedding venue that went perfectly with Rania's hair, makeup, and dress!

Beauty Photography

One of my personal projects I have been working has been to learn and practice beauty and head shot photography. I have picked up a lot from working with photographers and even getting some one on one help with the post production of an image. Aside from that, there is so much information available online to learn just about anything.

I thought I would make a post sharing some of my favorites from my recent mini photo shoot sessions. All makeup, hair, photos, editing was done by me. I love the entire process that results in the final image, and I find that improving one of these skills helps give me insight about another. As always, I will continue to learn and grow and maybe my next post like this will show marked improvements. For now, enjoy these photos!

Bridal Makeup - Blush Tones - Orange County Makeup Artist

Bridal Glam

Here are the photos from one of my lovely brides, Beatriz! For Beatriz's bridal makeup, she wanted to incorporate the rose pink colors of her bouquet into her makeup.

We decided to go with soft, rose toned neutral colors on the lid, lightly smoked out so there are no harsh lines, and pair it with a rose colored lip. I added medium feathery lashes to make her eyes really stand out.

For her foundation, I used Mehron's HD celebre pro HD cream foundation. We had a bridal trial previously, so I knew what she wanted ahead of time, and there were no surprises on her wedding day!

I also did the makeup for the rest of her bridal party and family. Hair was styled by Erica Marni Edwards. Enjoy the photos!

Congrats again Beatriz! You were such a lovely bride, thanks so much for including me in your special day :)

Bridal Party Makeup

Wedding makeup for Mother of the Groom and family.

Here are some photos from my last wedding I worked on in Texas, right before leaving for California! I did the makeup for all of the ladies in the photos, and hair was done by Erica Marni Edwards (based out of Houston).

Some of them chose to have their makeup airbrushed, while others did not. I love working with both traditional and airbrush makeup and can achieve similar results with both. Some people don't like the experience of feeling air blowing on their face, while others find it refreshing.  If you are a bride wondering which way to go, a bridal trial is a good way to test both out.

Enjoy the rest of the photos! Photos taken by Amanda Freeman Photography.

Airbrush Bridal Makeup for Bride Jean - Orange County, San Diego, Los Angeles Wedding Makeup Artist

I had the pleasure of doing the makeup for Jean and her bridal party. What a sweet and beautiful group of girls!

Gold and Silver Shimmery Eyes

For Jean's makeup, she wanted to incorporate gold and silver into her look, so using my Yaby pearl paint eyeshadows, I blended the shimmery gold and silver to create her unique look. We didn't do a bridal trial before hand, so I asked questions throughout to make sure I provided exactly what she was looking for. She loved it and even came back to participate in my makeup workshop months later!

Waterproof Airbrush Makeup

For her and her party's foundation, I used airbrush makeup by Kett Cosmetics for flawless, natural coverage.
