Bridal Makeup - Blush Tones - Orange County Makeup Artist

Bridal Glam

Here are the photos from one of my lovely brides, Beatriz! For Beatriz's bridal makeup, she wanted to incorporate the rose pink colors of her bouquet into her makeup.

We decided to go with soft, rose toned neutral colors on the lid, lightly smoked out so there are no harsh lines, and pair it with a rose colored lip. I added medium feathery lashes to make her eyes really stand out.

For her foundation, I used Mehron's HD celebre pro HD cream foundation. We had a bridal trial previously, so I knew what she wanted ahead of time, and there were no surprises on her wedding day!

I also did the makeup for the rest of her bridal party and family. Hair was styled by Erica Marni Edwards. Enjoy the photos!

Congrats again Beatriz! You were such a lovely bride, thanks so much for including me in your special day :)

Bridal Party Makeup

Wedding makeup for Mother of the Groom and family.

Here are some photos from my last wedding I worked on in Texas, right before leaving for California! I did the makeup for all of the ladies in the photos, and hair was done by Erica Marni Edwards (based out of Houston).

Some of them chose to have their makeup airbrushed, while others did not. I love working with both traditional and airbrush makeup and can achieve similar results with both. Some people don't like the experience of feeling air blowing on their face, while others find it refreshing.  If you are a bride wondering which way to go, a bridal trial is a good way to test both out.

Enjoy the rest of the photos! Photos taken by Amanda Freeman Photography.

Airbrush Bridal Makeup for Bride Jean - Orange County, San Diego, Los Angeles Wedding Makeup Artist

I had the pleasure of doing the makeup for Jean and her bridal party. What a sweet and beautiful group of girls!

Gold and Silver Shimmery Eyes

For Jean's makeup, she wanted to incorporate gold and silver into her look, so using my Yaby pearl paint eyeshadows, I blended the shimmery gold and silver to create her unique look. We didn't do a bridal trial before hand, so I asked questions throughout to make sure I provided exactly what she was looking for. She loved it and even came back to participate in my makeup workshop months later!

Waterproof Airbrush Makeup

For her and her party's foundation, I used airbrush makeup by Kett Cosmetics for flawless, natural coverage.

Elegant Bridal Makeup and Hair - Nikki's wedding in Houston

Nikki was a beautiful and kind bride I was lucky enough to work on. The wedding day prep went very smoothly due in part to us having a bridal trial previously.  For brides like Nikki who aren't used to wearing makeup, a bridal trial ahead of time allows the bride to get comfortable with the way she looks and feels wearing makeup.  Even just filling in eyebrows and covering up dark under eye circles can be a shock to someone who is not used to looking that way. It is also a good time to test out wearing false lashes, which can be a bit of an adjustment when its new. As a makeup artist, a bridal trial is helpful for a couple of reasons. It allows me time to look at the trial pictures and really evaluate what worked and what could be enhanced, adjusted, etc. I also keep a detailed list of what products and techniques were used in the trial and any changes we may decide to make so that both the bride and I can feel confident that the result will be exactly what she wants.

For Nikki's makeup, I used Kett Hydro airbrush makeup to apply her foundation and subtle contours. This foundation is just excellent for on and off camera. It provides a natural transfer-proof finish, yet it can cover up blemishes, scars, and tattoos easily. Under her eyes I used my foolproof MAC Pro Longwear concealer. This stuff is long lasting, full coverage, and does not settle into creases. She chose to wear a pair of soft feathery lashes to bring out her eyes without being too dramatic, and I think they did just that. For her hair, she chose to keep her hair off her shoulders and paired with a birdcage veil for an elegant look that I think ties in so well with her venue and dress.

Hugo V workshop in Houston, TX

I had a great time participating in a photography workshop held by Hugo V at our studio in Houston, TX. It was a two day event and photographers flew from across the continent to learn from Hugo himself. The event was hosted by my friend and creative partner, Rapheal from Digital Icon.  I did the makeup and hair for the models both days. Here are some of the finished results. I love seeing the different styles of the photographers!

Beautiful Outdoor Wedding in Victoria, TX

Makeup for Outdoor Wedding

I had the pleasure a few months back of doing makeup for Brandi and her bridal party. Everyone requested airbrush makeup. The wonderful thing about airbrush makeup is that you can achieve a super sheer to an absolutely full coverage face without ever looking or feeling like there is a thick layer of makeup sitting on your skin. The airbrush makeup I use is Kett Hydro foundation, which produces a natural matte finish to the skin. For those who prefer a dewier finish, I use an additional spray to give the skin a nice sheen. The setting for Brandi's wedding was absolutely gorgeous, and took place in Victoria, TX. Photos by Studio Eleven.

Pin up style Makeup and Hair for Engagement Photos! - Orange County Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist

Pin up Makeup & Hair

I absolutely love Brittany's idea to do the classic pin up makeup and hair look for her engagement photo session. The key features for this makeup look are a bold eyeliner, a bright red lip, bold and defined brows, and rosy cheeks! For her hair, she chose victory rolls with curls for a really bombshell look. I must say, Brittany wears pin up very well! Photos were taken by Cherry Bones Photography.

AJ Cochran Houston Dynamo - Tip Out Magazine

I wanted to share some pictures from my most recent publication with Tip Out Magazine. This month's feature was Houston Dynamo defender AJ Cochran.  My job, of course, was to make up the man in such a way that doesn't look like he's wearing makeup. For those who would like some help with natural "man makeup," here is a break down of the products I used:

  • CeraVe Moisturizer (Night time w/o SPF)
  • MAC pro longwear concealer (NW30) under the eyes
  • Kett Fixx Creme (shades O3 and R3 mixed together) to conceal blemishes
  • Graftobian Dual Finish Powder Foundation to even out skin tone while maintaining a natural sheen
  • La Femme blush in "Soft Beige" applied lightly around perimeters of face to warm up complexion with a touch of bronze
  • chap stick on lips
  • MAC eyeshadow "Omega" to softly fill in brows

Here is the result.

Good luck to AJ and the rest of the Houston Dynamo on their last few games of the season! I enjoyed working with him and the rest of my team at

The Makeup Show Dallas 2014

Finally, I was able to attend the Makeup Show! This is the first time The Makeup Show has come to Texas, and I am so glad that they did! Unlike other makeup trade shows, the Makeup Show is exclusive to makeup artists, and offers professional discounts on several pro brands. They provide so many educational opportunities in the form of workshops, demonstrations, and lectures. I attended the live video chat with one of my makeup inspirations, Wayne Goss. I also sat in on talks by a few other amazing makeup artists, including James Vincent, Melanie Inglessis, and Brian Sutherby. Hearing directly from these pros about their years in the industry was such an invaluable learning experience.

Some of my pictures are a little blury... next time I'll bring a better camera! Above is a picture of Brian Sutherby giving a demonstration using Kett airbrush foundations (my go-to foundation).

A peak into my haul from the show. I am completely impressed by all of the new products I'm trying.
The standout items for me are the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer - an amazing little jar of foundation, and the Inglot eyeshadows. I also picked up some items from Anastasia Beverly Hills, OCC, Nars, Mehron, Smashbox,  Muse, Gleam by Melanie Mills, and Chikuhodo.
I'm already looking forward to next year's Makeup Show!

Engagement Photo Makeup and Hair - Bridal Makeup Artist Orange County

Do you need a bridal trial?

Sometimes I get asked this question, and my answer will always be, no you don't need one (I feel confident that I can make you look amazing no matter what), but I recommend one for the best possible experience. Not only is it a good way for the bride to feel confident about her makeup/hair leading up to the big day, but it allows me as the artist to analyze what worked and what could be improved. I really do take my time and thoroughly plan and prepare how to make each bride look the best she possibly can.

When your planning every detail of your wedding, why leave the makeup out? Especially if you aren't used to wearing makeup, having a bridal trial is a great way to see what makeup you're comfortable with. My client, Ria, chose to have her engagement photo session serve as a bridal trial. She was not accustomed to wearing much makeup, but wanted some bold colors for her photos. Even though she wanted some of the colors to be different for her wedding day, we were able to establish the foundation to her look such as complexion, eyebrows, and face contours. These are all details you may not think of if you aren't a regular makeup wearer, but are essential to creating that flawless face. For her hair, we pulled it all up into a simple updo with curls.

She ended up with exactly what she wanted and I think she looked beautiful! Enjoy the pictures!

Nat Rochner IFBB Pro

An image of strength and beauty, Nat Rochner is a true inspiration.

A few months ago I had the opportunity to do Nat's makeup for a photo shoot. At that point, Nat had only competed once at the NPC Branch Warren Classic. Since then, she has earned her IFBB pro card after earning first place at the USA's Body Building Championship Women's Physique Class D. Having progressed so far in such a short period of time, she is a testament to how dedication and will power pay off. Nat returned to our studio this past month and we had another photo shoot to show off her post-win body. Enjoy the pictures! Photos by Digital Icon Photography.

Andie's Wedding in Hunstville, TX

Bridal Makeup - Red Lips

One of my sweetest clients, Andie, got married in Hunstville this summer. Even though I work primarily out of Houston and Spring, I will frequently travel out of town for weddings! For Andie's makeup I applied a thin layer of Kett Fix creme foundation, which is completely water proof - meaning no tear streaks! For her under eye concealer, I used MAC prolongwear concealer. I love this concealer because holds up well in heat and humidity. On her lips I used one of my favorite red lipsticks from Revlon. Bright lips bring so much color and life to the face, and look absolutely beautiful in photos!

A tip for making your bright colored lip last long, even if you aren't using a long lasting stain, is to fill in your entire lip with a similar colored lip liner then blot with a tissue. Apply the lipstick on top, and even if the lipstick eventually wears off, your lip liner will remain!

Beauty Makeup

As a makeup artist, I love when I get the freedom to incorporate bright bold colors into someone's makeup. I worked together with Digital Icon Photography, who is amazing at head shots, and Jessie Hunter, a model and hairstylist to create this look on the beautiful model, Stephanie. Don't be afraid to branch out and try new things with your makeup. A great way to improve your skills is to find a picture online or in a magazine and see if you can use your own makeup to recreate that look! If you don't like the result, don't worry! Makeup washes right off.

Makeup is a tool that can enhance your features, and that's enough for most people, but it can be so much more than that. It can be an outlet for creativity that has the ability to affect a person's confidence, not to mention its so much fun! Enjoy the pictures!
