Bridal Spotlight

I am in love with this makeup and hair look I created with my beautiful bride, Rosemary! I say with, because it is a collaborative process with my brides to make them look exactly the way they want! She was such a sweetie; I really enjoyed getting to know her the months leading up to her wedding.

labridalmakeupartist

When Rosemary and I met for her bridal trial, she knew exactly the type of look she was going for: voluminous curls, and brown smokey eye with nude lips. To get a flawless finish to her skin, I used waterproof creme makeup with a thin layer of airbrush foundation on top.

An essential part of every trial is to take photos of the completed look! This is so important because it allows both the bride and me to see how the makeup photographs, and it gives me  the opportunity to really study the photos to make any improvements for the wedding day. We made a few adjustments for her wedding day, including adding some flowers to one side of her hair.

I can't get over how glamorous and GORGEOUS Rosie looked with her completed look in her wedding dress. I got this message from her the next day:

I love how my makeup looked so natural and so beautiful thank you so much!!

Congrats again to Rosemary and Sal!!

Vueset Palette Review

Vueset Tahiti Palette - Makeup Artist Tools!

I don't know about you, but I LOVE looking at other artist's kits and especially how they organize said kits ;)

I just recently purchased the Vueset Tahiti Palette from Camera Ready Cosmetics. Vueset offers several different options of empty acrylic palettes that are designed for makeup artists and hair stylists. These little containers are stack-able and perfect for condensing your makeup kit! As a professional whose makeup kit sees a lot of travel and wear, I am always looking for the best way to simplify and lighten my load.

I'd seen Vueset containers for some time now, and since my Makeup Forever Palette that was storing my Kett foundations has finally given way, I decided to make the switch to Vueset.

I just bought the Tahiti palette as a test for now, but I am loving it so much I am going to go back and buy some more! Looking at the palette it doesn't seem like it would hold that much - but surprisingly each well holds a full 7 grams of product! That's more than enough room for your average lipstick, and perfect for my Kett Fixx creme refill pans.

You can see that the Tahiti palette has spaces for 24 different colors. The palette is very sturdy and snaps tightly closed. I know some artists have successfully use these palettes to store their loose pigments and even cream shadows/liners, so you know its got to be air-tight!

My Rating: 5/5!

Makeover and photo shoot in Orange County with model Jhoanne

Last fall I moved back to Orange County from Texas after being away for six years. The weather is so refreshing and the beautiful scenery is endless, which makes me want to be outside all the time! I met recently with model Jhoanne (also from Orange County) to do an outdoor photo shoot right in my corner of Laguna Hills. The natural setting makes for a great backdrop to the photos.

Makeup - Earth Tones

Jhoanne is obviously gorgeous and I can't get enough of her smile!! For her eye makeup, I used some Yaby pearl paints and eyeshadows in green, gold, and warm brown colors to go along with the surrounding earth tones. I applied some extra long lashes to really lift and open the eyes. For her blush and lips I chose fairly natural colors - Rimmel nude lipliner with a little Mac creme cup lipstick in the center, and Mac Melba blush on the cheeks. To create a soft glow on the cheeks, I added Becca's highlighter in Champagne Pop

Newport Beach Photo Shoot with Model Ali - Summer Makeup and Hair

Ali is a local OC model that I recently worked with to take some really fun beach photos. This was my first time taking photos myself on the beach, so it was definitely a learning experience! There was a lot of climbing rocks and rolling around in the sand, which Ali graciously went along with, and by the end we were cold and covered in wet sand, but oh-so happy!

Makeup - bronze, copper, gold

These colors are universally flattering on all skin, hair, and eye colors, and I especially love them for summer! Easy to pair with a bright lip, or a soft pink/nude like we did for this shoot.

One of my favorite palettes for these copper and gold tones is the Sleek Sunset Palette. Super affordable and AMAZING quality! I'm telling you, these perform just as well as some of the pricier brands.

To get that gorgeous glow on her skin, I used Becca's Champagne Pop on the high points of the face. To blur pores and to even out the bronzer, blush, and highlight, I used Graftobian HD dual finish powders. I LOVE these powders for their build-able (yet not cakey) coverage and smooth application.

For her hair, I curled it first, then pulled it up into this pony using a pull through braid technique. Once we let down her hair, the curls held just enough to create that perfectly textured beach hair.

Keep an eye out for my next post like this coming soon!

BOLD Dark Blue Eyeshadow - Makeup and Photography by Veronica

In my spare time I have been working on improving my photography skills. Here are some photos from a recent session with this lovely model Seinne. Like me, she also an OC local!

I wanted to try a look that was new for her, so we went with this dramatic dark blue/purple smoked out eyeshadow with a little sparkle. I placed individual lashes for a "less fake" but FULL fringe. Her skin was pretty flawless to begin with; I just helped to bring out her skin to a smooth, almost buttery finish using my favorite Kett Fixx creme correctors and foundations. The glow on her cheeks was achieved using MAC soft n gentle. To get that super shiny lip, I mixed some Mehron metallic gold powder with OCC clear lip tar.

I hope you enjoy the photos! Will be posting more from recent shoots soon!

Before & After Makeup Transformations

Before and after makeup transformations by Veronica Fensel | Makeup Artist & Hair Stylist | Los Angeles | Orange County | San Diego County

Beauty Photography

One of my personal projects I have been working has been to learn and practice beauty and head shot photography. I have picked up a lot from working with photographers and even getting some one on one help with the post production of an image. Aside from that, there is so much information available online to learn just about anything.

I thought I would make a post sharing some of my favorites from my recent mini photo shoot sessions. All makeup, hair, photos, editing was done by me. I love the entire process that results in the final image, and I find that improving one of these skills helps give me insight about another. As always, I will continue to learn and grow and maybe my next post like this will show marked improvements. For now, enjoy these photos!

Bridal Makeup - Blush Tones - Orange County Makeup Artist

Bridal Glam

Here are the photos from one of my lovely brides, Beatriz! For Beatriz's bridal makeup, she wanted to incorporate the rose pink colors of her bouquet into her makeup.

We decided to go with soft, rose toned neutral colors on the lid, lightly smoked out so there are no harsh lines, and pair it with a rose colored lip. I added medium feathery lashes to make her eyes really stand out.

For her foundation, I used Mehron's HD celebre pro HD cream foundation. We had a bridal trial previously, so I knew what she wanted ahead of time, and there were no surprises on her wedding day!

I also did the makeup for the rest of her bridal party and family. Hair was styled by Erica Marni Edwards. Enjoy the photos!

Congrats again Beatriz! You were such a lovely bride, thanks so much for including me in your special day :)

Elegant Bridal Makeup and Hair - Nikki's wedding in Houston

Nikki was a beautiful and kind bride I was lucky enough to work on. The wedding day prep went very smoothly due in part to us having a bridal trial previously.  For brides like Nikki who aren't used to wearing makeup, a bridal trial ahead of time allows the bride to get comfortable with the way she looks and feels wearing makeup.  Even just filling in eyebrows and covering up dark under eye circles can be a shock to someone who is not used to looking that way. It is also a good time to test out wearing false lashes, which can be a bit of an adjustment when its new. As a makeup artist, a bridal trial is helpful for a couple of reasons. It allows me time to look at the trial pictures and really evaluate what worked and what could be enhanced, adjusted, etc. I also keep a detailed list of what products and techniques were used in the trial and any changes we may decide to make so that both the bride and I can feel confident that the result will be exactly what she wants.

For Nikki's makeup, I used Kett Hydro airbrush makeup to apply her foundation and subtle contours. This foundation is just excellent for on and off camera. It provides a natural transfer-proof finish, yet it can cover up blemishes, scars, and tattoos easily. Under her eyes I used my foolproof MAC Pro Longwear concealer. This stuff is long lasting, full coverage, and does not settle into creases. She chose to wear a pair of soft feathery lashes to bring out her eyes without being too dramatic, and I think they did just that. For her hair, she chose to keep her hair off her shoulders and paired with a birdcage veil for an elegant look that I think ties in so well with her venue and dress.

Hugo V workshop in Houston, TX

I had a great time participating in a photography workshop held by Hugo V at our studio in Houston, TX. It was a two day event and photographers flew from across the continent to learn from Hugo himself. The event was hosted by my friend and creative partner, Rapheal from Digital Icon.  I did the makeup and hair for the models both days. Here are some of the finished results. I love seeing the different styles of the photographers!

Beautiful Outdoor Wedding in Victoria, TX

Makeup for Outdoor Wedding

I had the pleasure a few months back of doing makeup for Brandi and her bridal party. Everyone requested airbrush makeup. The wonderful thing about airbrush makeup is that you can achieve a super sheer to an absolutely full coverage face without ever looking or feeling like there is a thick layer of makeup sitting on your skin. The airbrush makeup I use is Kett Hydro foundation, which produces a natural matte finish to the skin. For those who prefer a dewier finish, I use an additional spray to give the skin a nice sheen. The setting for Brandi's wedding was absolutely gorgeous, and took place in Victoria, TX. Photos by Studio Eleven.

Beautiful Bride - Brittney's Wedding in Houston, TX

Here are the pictures from my bride, Brittney's, wedding in Houston, TX. Her beautiful photos were taken by Ama by Aisha.  Brittney was such a sweet bride with the most gorgeous green eyes! For her makeup, I used Kett Hydro Airbrush foundation to create a flawless base that doesn't look thick or heavy. I also used the airbrush to subtly emphasize the contours of her face.  For her eyes I did a very classic and timeless look that has just the right amount of drama to bring out the beautiful color in her eyes. Enjoy the pictures!
